Event description

Description

Presentation live at LVS: A comparison between methadone and buprenorphine for peri-operative analgesia in dogs undergoing ovariohysterectomy.

Speaker: Dr Jo Murrell BVSc PhD (Bristol) DipECVAA MRCVS Reader in Veterinary Anaesthesia, University of Bristol

Ovariohysterectomy is a frequently performed surgical procedure and seen as ‘standard surgery’ though it is known to cause moderate-severe pain. This presentation of Dr Murrell’s most recent study questions the use of buprenorphine in ovariohysterectomy and investigates whether pre-operative methadone provides superior
peri-operative analgesia compared to buprenorphine in dogs undergoing ovariohysterectomy.
