A Conversation on Craft Culture
Featuring international experts in the field, this keynote event discusses craft across the divide between the everyday and the professional. Kate Fletcher, Susan Luckman and Nicola Thomas will explore ordinary practices and use of craft, implications for sustainability in the fashion sector, examinations of craft work and craft micro-economies.
Kate Fletcher is Professor of Sustainability, Design, Fashion at London College of Fashion and author of Craft of Use: Post-Growth Fashion. Her work is both rooted in nature’s principles and engaged with the cultural and creative forces of fashion and design. Kate’s original thinking and progressive outlook has shaped the field of fashion, textiles and sustainability with design thinking.
Susan Luckman is Professor of Cultural Studies at the University of South Australia and author of Craft and the Creative Economy. She studies the intersections of culture, place and creativity, especially in relation to creative and cultural industries, digital media, and grassroots innovation. Susan has published a wide range of academic and policy publications on cultural work, creative industries and creative micro-entrepreneurialism.
The discussant will be Nicola Thomas, Senior Lecturer at the University of Exeter and expert on the geographies of craft and the creative economy.
