Rachel, Amanda and Lesley will introduce Empowered Carers, what it is and the difference it makes to the lives of people caring.
About this event
For the last 5 years we've been delivering Empowered Carers in Salford, Greater Manchester. Based on the emotional support model of the New York University Caregiver Intervention (NYUCI) the funded service has supported almost 100 family caregivers though the provision of regular zoom sessions.
The NYUCI has an evidence base demonstrating a reduction in burden and distress in dementia caregivers and an improvement in quality of care for care recipients, with a delayed entrance into residential care of 585 days.
Empowered Carers is delivered by qualified counsellors with a collective 40 years experience in dementia supervised by a BPC registered psychodynamic psychotherapist.
How does it make a difference?
'Empowered Carers is important to me because I feel I have a life line and personal support outside my family. You are my voice of reason in so many ways, you help me put things into perspective; and point out what should appear obvious yet is sometimes muddle and doesn't appear clear at the time.... I can only liken it to an invaluable service which is run by extremely special people', Lesley, Caregiver for her dad living with dementia.
