About this event

Hwang Sok-yong is a International booker prize longlisted author born under Japanese colonial rule in Manchukuo. His debut novel, ‘Mr Han’s Chronicle,’ was published in 1970. After his arrest and imprisonment under the authoritarian government, Hwang went into exile. He was pardoned in 1998 after being imprisoned a second time for returning to South Korea in 1993. Hwang received international critical acclaim for the 2002 novel ‘The Guest’ and his most recent publication, ‘Mater 2-10' (2024) was longlisted for the International Booker Prize.
