In this Conversation, Lizzie Hoskin will introduce the Manchester Camerata and the Music in Mind programme for people affected by dementia.

About this event

Manchester Camerata orchestra is a Registered Charity, working and performing in Manchester and worldwide since 1972, and whose established Community programme uses music to help improve peoples’ lives.

Music in Mind is a music therapy-based programme for people living with dementia and their carers, developed over 10 years in partnership with the University of Manchester under Professor John Keady. Led by a resident team of highly trained specialist musicians and therapists, Music in Mind’s unique methodology uses improvisation to help people living with dementia to express themselves and communicate with others, be they residents in care homes or participating in Music Cafes. These sessions help reduce frustration, enable new connections to be made and have a profound effect on daily life.

Lizzie will talk about the new training programme for carers, to help them to deliver the benefits of Music in Mind through their own music-making workshops.
