About this event
Sophie Power has been ultrarunning for over 10 years and has finished over 50 ultras - including Spartathlon (153 miles), UTMB (106 miles) and Spine Fusion (268 miles)! She's even represented Great Britain at the 24-Hour World Championships but many will know Sophie from THAT all important photo.
In 2018, a picture of Sophie breastfeeding her three-month-old baby at the 106-mile UTMB went viral around the world (credit Alexis Berg). And the rest, as they say, is history. Except that it's not! Sophie is still breaking down barriers and smashing glass ceilings - as we'll find out in this interview with Sophie herself.
'I only took part in this event because I’d worked hard to earn my place and there wasn’t, at the time, a pregnancy deferral policy in place. This led to me setting up SheRACES, with a goal to educate races to be more inclusive to female athletes and take their needs into consideration. I started with pregnancy deferrals, given my own experience, and it’s grown since then' - says Sophie.
Since it's foundation, SheRACES has made waves (which are more like tidal waves) in racing best practice worldwide. The impact of SheRACES campaigns can be found here. But behind the scenes, the organisation has been researching women's only events, assessing the demand for women-only races and what these events should look like. So it will come as no surprise that eariler this year, Sophie launched the SheRaces trail series, the UK’s first female-only trail running series - with the first edition in the Peak District and further events taking place in 2026, including the Surrey Hills and Shropshire Hills. Proceeds from this online event will go to the SheRACES charity.
Sophie isn't just an advocate for women in sport, she also a World Record Holder in her own right. She has an extremely accomplished CV and is a much sought-after public speaker, (headlining at the National Running Show) and an Ambassador for the Active Pregnancy Foundation.
This online session will take an interview format, with Girls on Hills co-founder Keri Wallace, chatting with Sophie about all aspects of her running career to date, as well as about SheRACES and her wider work within women's sport. We look forward to hearing about the SheRACES trail series and plans for the future. We also want to give attendees a chance to ask Sophie some questions too - so hang around until the end for our open Q&A!
Can't make the time/date? Don't worry, we'll send a recording to everyone who signed up!
