Event description

Description

Purpose of this event:

The Scottish Government is developing a Culture Strategy for Scotland. We're holding events in different parts of the country to encourage anyone who has an interest in a strategy to engage with us and contribute to #scotlandscultureconversation. We want to hear your views and ideas about culture in Scotland, and the direction it should take, as well as the main challenges and issues you think the strategy should seek to address.

Dumfries' Culture Conversation will be hosted in partnership with The Stove Network: An Artist-led organisation run by membership, using socially engaged arts practice to develop partnership projects with local people, groups and organisations focussed on re-thinking the future identity and purpose of Dumfries as the regional capital of South West Scotland.

Registration

This is a free, open event, limited only by venue capacity. Light refreshments will be provided. To guarantee a space please register on Eventbrite, or call Sarah Simpson on 0131 244 0305. Those attending on the day without registering will be admitted on a first come, first served basis.

There is disabled access and a hearing loop system in place for this event. If you would like to discuss any additional needs please email any queries you have to sarah.simpson@gov.scot or call Sarah Simpson on 0131 244 0305.

FAQs

  • What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?

If you are travelling by car then parking is extremely limited close to The Stove. There are some parking spaces for people with disabilities behind The Stove and these are reached via ‘Dobies Wynd’ (off Loreburn Street on map above)....but, be warned, our One-Way system is not for the faint hearted! The best places to park are either Brooms Road carpark (marked in pink) which is 24 hrs and free (you do NOT need a parking disc) - or on the Whitesands; here there is 2 hour and 3hour parking and you will need a ‘parking disc’ - these are FREE and the easiest place to get one is from the Tourist Information office next to Coach and Horses bar on the Whitesands. We apologise on behalf of our town for the ‘complex’ nature of arriving in Dumfries....The Stove is working on improving this.

  • How can I contact the organiser with any questions?

Please email any queries you have to sarah.simpson@gov.scot.

  • Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

Yes please, but if you do forget it we will have a list of all registered attendees at the front door.

  • Is it ok if the name on my ticket or registration doesn't match the person who attends?

If there are any last-minute changes, please let us know by emailing sarah.simpson@gov.scot.
