A Dark and Stormy Night
Sat, 22 Oct 2016, 19:30 – Sun, 23 Oct 2016, 01:00 BST
Kings Weston House will be opening its doors for a night of nautical adventures, hosted by Bristol Gig Club. As the sun goes down, you will handed a glass of bubbly whilst being led through the drawing rooms and ballroom of this beautiful 18th century stately home.
There will be various entertainment throughout the evening, from classical performers, traditional shanties through to club sounds. Entertainment will include:
The Longest Johns (https://www.facebook.com/TheLongestJohns/)
These are a Bristol based, acapella band, born out of a mutual love of traditional folk songs and shanties. They rock maritime songs alongside the more unusual and less traditional folk tunes. After becoming a five-man group in 2015, they've taken their harmonies to new heights, whilst always retaining just the right mix of quality and hilarity.
Lord Dubs (https://www.facebook.com/Lord-Dubs-DJ-219134401606326/)
is one of Bristol’s finest who’s musical accomplishments include John Peel sessions. He started his record collection in the seventies and has a mouth watering selection of great pop, soul, funk, rock and (his great love) 70s Reggae vinyl. He now plays these gems regularly and is sure to delight the audience at Kings Weston House.
The Bristol String Quartet (http://www.thebristolstringquartet.com/) will have members present to welcome you as you arrive at the grand entrance, performing popular classics.
For those who dream of dancing in the ballroom of Downton Abbey, Michelle Webber from Dance Factory (http://www.dancefactorybristol.com/) will be running scheduled dance lessons by Kings Weston House’s iconic staircase, which is one of only two "hanging" staircases left in the world, the other is in St Petersburg!
Food: Bristol-based The Underdogs will be selling Hog Dogs and The Little Taqueria will be pitching up in their VW Camper to delight us with their Mexican Tacos
Drink: There will be a cash-only full bar available until 1am.
Dress code: Nautical chic, sailor smart or monsters from the deep – you choose. There will be a professional face painter and costume assistant available to help with any finishing touches and inspiration.
Ticket price is £20, which can be purchased in advance through https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/a-dark-and-stormy-night-tickets-27596664366
or you can pay cash on the door on entry. Campervans welcome to stay for the night!
