About this event

This workshop is suitable for any melody instrument. Lauren will teach a Scottish tune by ear, with music provided for anyone who prefers to use it. We will explore how to discover your own voice within a tune, how to make it your own and have fun with it.

A PDF pdf of sheet music will be sent along with your joining details for anyone who wishes to use it.

Lauren MacColl is considered one of Scotland’s most expressive fiddlers. Originally from the Black Isle, she is particularly interested in the old traditional music from across Scotland, and passionate about engaging young people through music. She taught fiddle for 11 years for RCS Junior Dept, and now living back in the Highlands teaches community classes for arts organisation Feis Rois, as well as touring globally with various bands.

The aim behind ‘A Discovery of Voice’ is to create a FREE interactive series of events incorporating a discovery of voice and emotions through music that focuses on promoting understandings of mental health, emotions, relationships, communication and nurturing a more confident society through expressions such as music and music therapy.

Using music as a platform to de-exceptionalise our understandings of ‘conflict’ by using an everyday perspective to help boost confidence in individuals and help them hear and better understand their own voice, which in turn can deescalate conflict and improve relationships. The events will help promote an understanding of our emotions and way of coping, managing and communicating them to those around us.

Join our FREE online opening event 'Symphony of Stories' on 17th June 18:00-20:00 and our closing concert on the 19th June 18:00-19:30. These events can be booked on the SCCR Events page.

This event will be delivered on the online platform Zoom. If you book on to the event you will be sent the details via email on how to join nearer the time to the event when bookings have closed.

Please note Zoom offers video capability so you can join with your webcam on, but this is entirely up to you and this option can be turned off. However we would love to see your faces and feel it is a more interactive experience with videos on.

We hope to see you online soon!

Part of Cyrenians, the Scottish Centre for Conflict Resolution (SCCR) is a national resource promoting and supporting best practice in family conflict resolution, mediation and early intervention. Therefore, the focus of the centre is on young people and their families experiencing conflict which is affecting both their relationships and their lives. The SCCR is delivering a range of free events and resources, including a series of local seminars, national conferences across Scotland, free training sessions, and online resources for practitioners, young people and families. We acknowledge the support of the Scottish Government through a CYPFEIF  and ALEC Fund Grant. Cyrenians is a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO), registered charity SC011052.
