Event description

Description

I remember in my late teens walking and chatting with my mum in Newton Abbot, Devon, when suddenly she was gone. I looked back to see her collapsed on the floor. She didn't know what had happened but as she put her next leg forward to take a step nothing had happened. After tests and a visit to a neurologist, who seemed more concerned about some stresses my parents had, she was told she was neurotic and it was all down to stress. It took 10 painful years for my mum to be diagnosed with Parkinson's and the reality of what this meant for her and the family. Parkinson's was thought to be an old persons condition but my mum had started symptoms in her 30's and now in her late 70's is still fighting it all the way. With an ageing workforce, an increased chance that you or a colleague could be diagnosed with the condition, let me tell you some facts about Parkinson's, how my mum still fights it every step of the way and how we have coped as a family.
