A fishbowl experiment of voices in flux
Overview
Join us for an experimental workshop bringing together researchers, practitioners, and collaborators to imagine the future of Science, Technology and Society (STS) in Cambridge.
Through a fishbowl conversation — an open, rotating discussion format — we will reflect on who we are as a community and how we might work together to shape a shared research agenda. This participatory method challenges hierarchies and invites diverse perspectives to co-create knowledge and connections across disciplines.
Together, we will explore two guiding questions: • Cambridge as a science-led city: what does Science Technology and Society look like in Cambridge?’ • What would a science technology and society studies research program look like in Cambridge?
The outcomes will inform the development of the new Science and Technology Studies Cambridge Network (SCaN) — a growing interdisciplinary community linking researchers across the University and beyond.

Why a fishbowl?Academic conversations often reproduce hierarchies that limit creative exchange. The fishbowl offers an inclusive, dynamic space for many voices — a simple experiment to rethink how we talk, listen, and collaborate.
