Event description
A lavish Georgian buffet inspired by JMW Turner...

About this Event

Come and experience a lavish Georgian buffet inspired by JMW Turner’s time spent in Margate in the 1820’s -1830’s, the shipping trade, and life at that time on the Isle of Thanet.

You’ll be greeted with a warming cup of Negus (mulled port), with toast infused rum and a December Pye (traditional mince pie, made with meat).

Lunch will include delicious recreations (and updated), recipes of the 1820’s-30’s period, inspired by food cargo being brought into Margate Harbour (legal or not!), and what was grown, fished and eaten locally at that time.

This buffet has been created by Annie Nichols (Hot Meals Now).

Annie Nichols:

Annie calls herself ‘an artist that cooks a lot of food’. She originally trained and worked as a chef in hotels and restaurants in the UK, Switzerland and Australia. She then became a food stylist and cookery writer, has regularly taught cookery here, and in Sicily and studied at Central Saint Martins, School of Art.

With a belief in good food for all, she works with different local community groups in Margate and Cliftonville, (United Mothers, Artsedex, Bags of Taste, The Garden Gate Project, Summer Kitchen, GOLD East Kent Mencap, Beyond The Page and The Seaside Singers Dementia Choir), to inspire people to cook and eat good food. To bring people together through food and cooking, and encourage people to listen to each other.
