Event description
This is a free course, funded by the Scottish Government for any secondary teacher in Scotland.

About this event

This two-part CLPL will take place across the following dates: 15/03/21 and 22/03/21, 5pm - 6.30pm

This online session focuses on practical ways to introduce Global Citizenship themes into your secondary classroom.

What is Global Citizenship? Why does it matter? How can you introduce the idea of Global Citizenship to secondary age learners in a sensitive and engaging way?

This two-part professional learning webinar delivered by Scotland's Development Education Centres is designed to help you understand the place of Global Citizenship within Scottish education's Learning for Sustainability (LfS) agenda.

You will receive a resource list to take away, along with plenty of new ideas around how to weave key Global Citizenship themes like climate change, gender equality, migration and the UN SDGs into your lessons in a way that is accessible to your secondary age learners.

We will:

  • Understand the national and global context for developing active global citizens
  • Consider frameworks to support progression and planning for Global Citizenship
  • Share participatory learning methodologies for secondary pupils that develop critical thinking
  • Consider strategies for dealing with controversial issues in the classroom
  • Explore ways to ensure different perspectives are included in the curriculum

This course will be held on Zoom to make use of the interactive capabilities of this platform. We recommend using a computer rather than a hand held device (phone or tablet) so you can fully participate in the interactive elements of the course. Depending on your Local Authority, it might be easier to access the course on your own personal computer rather than a council one.

All 32 local authority areas in Scotland are covered by a DEC – for full details, including locations and how to contact your local DEC, please visit
