“Why is it hard to predict suicide?” Dr Peter Jenkins FRCPsych, Consultant Psychiatrist & Expert Witness


Jason Pegg, Barrister, St Ives Chambers, Birmingham - HM Assistant Coroner Coventry & Warwickshire; West London. It was whilst serving in the military that Jason developed a keen knowledge, and recognised the importance, of the investigation of deaths. Jason played a role in the recovery of evidence relating to war crimes within Kosovo and served on the first war-fighting operations in Afghanistan.

Jason was first appointed as one of HM Coroners in January 2010 for the jurisdiction of Coventry & Warwickshire. In 2015 he was appointed in the jurisdiction of West London. Jason is also a Barrister specialising primarily in criminal law, he has defended in murders, rapes and other serious offences.

As HM Coroner, Jason has held numerous inquests, including jury inquests touching upon deaths in custody and military deaths on operations overseas.
Jason has also also represented NHS Health Trusts at inquests concerning the death of transgender prisoners and from the consumption of so called “legal highs”.


Dr Peter Jenkins FRCPsych, former Senior Lecturer in Psychological Medicine at the University of Wales will talk about assessing suicide risk and illustrate some of the difficulties which face clinicians at the coroners inquest and in clinical practice when trying to prevent suicide drawing illustrations from cases in which he has provided expert opinion for claimants and defendants over the years.
