About this event

We are very happy to announce that our monthly tours are up and running again and are returning to full capacity from July as Government Guidance on Covid safety allows. We are however, concerned to make sure that visitors, volunteers and staff stay safe. We are therefore continuing to ask visitors to wear a mask while in the house, use our hand sanitiser and maintain physical distance from others during the tour. In addition, we are asking visitors to take a rapid flow test before visiting the house so that we can do our best to make sure we limit the spread of Covid on our tours.

In the event that we need to cancel the tour due to changes in Government Guidance, we will issue you with a tour voucher so that you can rebook your tour at a later date.

Tour information

Visitors will have a chance to learn about 87 Hackford Road and its most famous tenant through a guided tour which includes a short walk to set the context and a longer tour of the house itself. The tour provides an insight into Van Gogh's short stay there from 1873-4 and an opportunity to view artefacts uncovered during the recent renovation and conservation of the house, providing a glimpse into the stories hidden within its walls...

PLEASE NOTE: Tours start at 87 Hackford Road London SW9 0RE and last around 1 hour and fifteen minutes

Tour details:

  • We will be asking visitors to wear a mask while in the house and to observe safe distancing in line with government guidance
  • We also ask visitors to take a rapid flow test before visiting and not to come if the test is positive or if they have been in contact with someone who has tested positive recently. Please contact us to rearrange your visit if this happens.
  • Many of the floors are made of original timbers so we do not permit high heels in the house.
  • Parking around Van Gogh House is limited, so please keep this in mind if arriving by car.
  • The space is small, so we ask that visitors do not come with large bags or are prepared to leave bags in a safe space on the ground floor of the house.
  • The house is a Grade II private residence with numerous stairs and narrow passageways, and we regret that wheelchair or step free access is not possible.
  • We welcome babes in arms on our tours. There is no age restriction for tours, but in the interests of health and safety we ask that children are accompanied by an adults

Organiser Van Gogh House London

Organiser of A Guided Tour of Van Gogh House London: July, August and September 2021

"I now have a room, as I've long been wishing..."

In August 1873, a young Vincent van Gogh took lodgings in an 1820's Georgian terrace in Stockwell, London. While 87 Hackford Road was Van Gogh’s home for only a year, the legacy of his time in London endures. After undergoing a sensitive renovation and conservation project, the Van Gogh House London will seek to share the history of the house and inspire a new generation of young artists through Van Gogh’s London story.
