Join keen local naturalist Steve Bury for a stroll around this Downs Land site, looking for birds, animals and plant life. We are at present making an audit of what can be found here - sharp eyes an advantage, and specialist knowledge not necessary. On our visit in the spring we saw a sparrowhawk and swallows looking for nests. There were orchids in bloom.
Take this opportunity to look round the fields, and talk about plans for the development of Hospital Cross as a community facility. Before you take part, you might like to visit The Downsland Trust website (helstondownsland .org.uk) to find out what was suggested at our public engagement event last January. You may have been there!
Please meet at the gate to the fields on the roundabout at the top of Meneage Road (the junction with Clodgey Lane). Parking is not available on the site, so please park in Casterills Road or nearby. take care when you cross the road.
Wear sensible field walking shoes!
