About this event

Join Don Brown - London Blue Badge Guide and StuffAboutLondon blogger - as we look at London's history through the stories and evolution of five of its most famous buildings and places.

All money raised from this online talk will go to the charities Prostate Cancer UK and Brain Tumour UK - so donate what you feel able to pay. Everything helps.

We'll explore

  • London Bridge - from the first Roman wooden structure through to the present day
  • Westminster Abbey - the Coronation Church and a place of worship since at least 960
  • The Docks - London was once the biggest port in the world, how did it get there, what happened, and how has the place been reinvented
  • Smithfield - the historic site just outside the City walls, a place of markets, executions, fairs and soon to be the new home of the London Museum
  • The Lloyds Building - Richard Rogers futurist marvel; how did London become the world centre of the insurance industry, and why was coffee involved?

This event will be a 'taster' for individual talks on the five sites - further details to follow.
