Event description

Description

Martin Marks OBE presents a talk giving a general background on the development of steam pinnaces and picket boats. Martin will focus on 199 in particular from her launch in 1911 up to present day. In 1984, she was recommissioned and used for VIP transport and exhibited in the Mast Pond of the Historic Dockyard in Portsmouth. The vessel remained in the Mast Pond until 1998 when it was transferred to the Maritime Workshop in Gosport in need of a complete refit. Steam Pinnace 199 is now afloat in Boathouse 4 at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard and can be viewed from the internal dockside. 199 is crewed and maintained by volunteers from the Friends of the National Museum of the Royal Navy. Join Martin for this free talk, heavily illustrated with photos and diagrams, and a chance to have a detailed look at 199.
