Description

Edinburgh Doors Open Day - 'A History of Tartan' talk with Annie Stewart

The flagship store of Scottish handmade stoneware, furniture and fashion retailer, ANTA is placed in the New Town’s prominent George Street location. The former Church of Scotland bookshop was refurbished in 2011 using natural materials informed by the firm’s preservation of the Scottish vernacular evident throughout the ANTA collection. The showroom exemplifies ANTA's contemporary take on building traditional artisan design, using colours inspired by the Scottish landscape and sourcing local craftsmanship to create a modern aesthetic grounded by a strong sense of place.

Annie Stewart, designer and co-founder of ANTA, will provide a talk on the History of Tartan within our George Street flagship store from 5 - 6pm. The focal of the talk will be the family home and former ANTA store, Crocket’s Land, an 18th century, Category A listed 4-storey attic tenement situated on West Bow street, which is entirely furnised in ANTA tartan. Both the house and flagship store are an exemplification of how a design partnership with a strong appreciation and understanding of the Scottish vernacular can be creatively combined to build harmony between history, design, interiors, architecture and the local landscape.

Complimentary refreshments and canapes will be served throughout the evening.

This event is FREE however tickets are limited.

Crocklet's Land will be open to members of the public throughout the Doors Open Day Weekend.

Saturday 23rd: 10am - 5pm

Sunday 24th: 11am - 5pm.

Guided tours available on each floor to explain the architecture and design.
