Description

At the official launch of Scottish Refugee Festival in Glasgow on Tuesday 20th of June Angela Constance (Minister for Communities, Social Security & Equalities) announced that she had written a long letter to the Home Secretary at Westminster requesting devolved powers over immigration matter for the Scottish parliament.

Amongst the things she mentioned were powers to deviate from the 2016 Immigration Act so that it's anticipated increase in immigrant destitution does not become a reality.

She also announced that Scottish government will be starting consultations for a New Scots Strategy.

The 1DWU event "A human-centred immigration policy for Scotland?" will be an opportunity to learn more & help shape the agenda (including adding things the Scottish government are NOT talking about, but you think that they should be).

Confirmed panelists are:

Joan McAlpine (SNP)

Laura Moodie (Greens)

Elaine Murray (Labour)
