Mayor’s Community Weekend - London (12 – 14 September)

Programme:

“A Journey of Creativity, Mindfulness & Nature’s Healing”

Organised by the Bishop Ho Ming Wah Association & Community Centre, this three-day journey of creativity, mindfulness, and nature’s healing invites you to explore the world of plants, natural art practices, and ways to enhance community wellbeing. Set in beautiful surroundings, we will discover how nature inspires creativity and nourishes both mind and body. All activities are free of charge.

Friday, 12 September 2025 | 14:00 – 16:30

“Guided Walk at St. James's Park + Natural Ink Making Workshop” (registration required)

Content: A guided walk through St. James’s Park to learn about local plants that can be used for natural dyeing, followed by a demonstration of making natural plant-based ink. Each participant will receive a sample ink stick.

Language : Cantonese with English support

Saturday, 13 September 2025 | 13:30 – 16:30

“Hands-On Natural Art Workshops” (no registration required)

1. Natural Dye Paper Workshop

Tutor: Alice Fu

Transform plain paper into unique artworks using plants, onion skins, tea, and other organic materials to create natural patterns and earthy hues. Each sheet will be one of a kind.

Age: 12+

2. Zentangle Inspired by Nature

Tutor: Asa Choi

Zentangle is a meditative drawing method using simple, repetitive patterns. Inspired by leaves, shells, and ripples, Certified Zentangle Teacher Asa will guide participants to let go of perfectionism and enjoy mindful creativity. No art experience needed.

Age: 12+

3. Chinese Calligraphy with Natural Ink (free form)

Experience the elegance of Chinese calligraphy using natural inks prepared on Day 1 and traditional ink sticks. Participants will practice characters with brush techniques that emphasise rhythm, balance, and flow.

Age: 12+

4. Knitting & Crochet with Plant-Dyed Yarn (free form)

Experience slow craft in a community setting. Participants will use plant-dyed yarn to knit or crochet small fabric squares, which will be donated to “The Connection at St. Martin-in-the-Fields” for their “Threads of Remembrance” project. More info:

5. “Sounds of the Earth” music jamming session (15:45 – 16:30 . Registration required)

Participants will make simple instruments using natural and upcycled materials, followed by a joyful group jam led by community artist Sheeta Ng. No musical background needed—the focus is on collective creativity, relaxation, and shared energy.

“Creativity, Mindfulness & Nature’s Healing – Exhibition & Workshops”

Exhibition: Mini showcase featuring participants’ natural creative works from Day 1 & Day 2

Time: 15:15 – 15:45 - “Art, Nature & Wellbeing” Talk

Dr. Gloria Wong, Associate Professor in the School of Psychology & Clinical Language Sciences at the University of Reading, will share research and reflections on how engaging with art and nature can reduce stress, support mental health, and deepen our connection with the world.
