Description

The A Level Mathematics revision workshop is designed to support all Year 13 A Level Mathematics students as they near completion of their two-year modular course.

The workshop will reinforce core A Level Mathematics teaching content from both Years 12 & 13 and build confidence in the core assessment skills required to ensure a strong performance in the core modular exams from A2.

Workshop Content: The workshop will see the delivery of five intensive large-group tuition sessions delivered by our experienced A Level Mathematics team;

Session 1 – TrigonomeTRY to TrigonomeDO (Subject knowledge booster)

  • Trigonometric Identities - deriving the identities and knowing when to use them
  • Proof and Trig – techniques and methods to prove one identity rearranges to another
  • Trig Equations – creating a list of question types, linking each to the strategy that solves them

Session 2 – Bionic at Binomials (Subject knowledge booster)

  • Binomial Expansion at A2 – recognising the increased expectations that C3 and C4 will test
  • Expanding with Real Powers – learning how to expand with negative and fractional powers
  • Evaluating Binomial Expansions – calculating expansions by substituting x with values

Session 3 – Differentiating from a C to an A (Subject knowledge & exam technique)

  • Why we differentiate – understanding not just how but why we use this powerful process
  • Recapping the main differentiation techniques – we look at the methods you must be able to use and tips to simplify your answers to aid access to the harder questions
  • Advanced techniques for all – explaining rules for exponentials and implicit functions; simple ways to ensure extra marks in the test

Session 4 – Navigating the Maze of Integration (Subject knowledge & exam technique)

  • First Attempts – here we look at the 9 basic techniques and expand to the more general case
  • Intermediate Steps – integrating Trig2, algebraic fractions and inverse chain
  • Advanced Calculus – detailed methods and reasoning provide a full proof method to integrate using Substitution and By Parts

Session 5 – Synoptic Success (Exam technique and practise)

  • Bringing it all together – a look at exam questions based on the topics above with a focus on mistakes and best practice
  • Compare your results – a chance to evaluate your exam technique and get an understanding from the examiner’s point of view of how marks are gained and loss
  • Question and answer session – providing students the opportunity to ask any A Level Maths question they like based on topics, challenging questions or exam technique

Students will be provided with a comprehensive work booklet for use in sessions and will have the opportunity to ask questions during the sessions and at the end of the event.

Course will run from 10:00 – 15:00 with student registration from 09:30
