Event description

Description

Come and be captivated by an emerging titan of the UK's explorer scene! Captain Louis Rudd MBE served for 34 years at the sharp end of the British military, and has also stamped his mark as one of the most successful Antarctic adventurers of modern times. Lou will regale us with personal insights into feats of endurance and overcoming adversity, tempered with humour and humility.

Drinks and canapes from 7pm, followed by the talk.

Lou's first trip to Antarctica was in 2011/12 on the Scott/Amundsen Centenary Race Expedition. Along with the late Lt Col Henry Worsley MBE they skied 800 miles over 67 days unsupported.

In 2016/17 he planned and led a team of five Army Reservists on a 67 day, 1,100 mile traverse of Antarctica.

In 2018/19 he undertook the ‘Spirit of Endurance’ expedition which was a 56 day, 920 mile solo unsupported (no kites or resupply) crossing of the Antarctic land mass, becoming the first Briton and second in the world to complete this journey. He is the first person to traverse Antarctica twice on foot.

Lou is a member of the Explorers Club, the 2019 winner of the SES explorer of the year award and a global brand ambassador for Shackleton London (https://shackletonlondon.com). Find out more about him here: www.lourudd.com.

All proceeds go to SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity, who support a significant number of our serving and veteran community, including their families, for a variety of needs. Hampshire is a particularly busy county for SSAFA, and your help for their endeavours would be most appreciated. Thank you.
