Seminar on "European Criminal Law Seminar: A Measure of Last Resort? Pre-Trial Detention Decision-Making in the EU" on 3 October, 14.30-18.00

Speakers include: Dr Maria Mousmouti, IALS;  Libby McVeigh, Fair Trials. Professor Ed Cape, Univeristy of the West of England.Cihair: Professor John Spencer QC, Cambridge.

Fair Trials has for the last 2 years been coordinating research across 10 EU Member States examining the practice of judicial decision-making on pre-trial detention. You can find the report here and links to each of the country reports here . Commissioner Jourova has announced that action on pre-trial detention would be one of her priorities for the coming years. This seminar will also examine the interplay between pre-trial detention decision-making, prison conditions, and the EAW, particularly in light of the CJEU’s decision in Aranyosi.
