Event description

Description

Discover the secret behind perfectly piquant Mexican Prawn Cocktail and mix the masa for authentic tortillas on this fabulous trip down Mexico way with Xavier Buendia (best known for his food photography with top restaurants in Brighton and further afield). His childhood memories of growing up ‘south of the border’ are the inspiration for this special fundraising Masterclass dedicated to home-style Mexican food.

Your Mexican feast for the evening will also feature a classic, fresh salsa, the essential frijoles negros (refried black beans) and your masa will form the basis for some tasty steak tacos. Rest assured that former chef Xav has designed his recipes using readily-available ingredients so you can recreate all the dishes you learn to master at home sin problema.

And to get you in the Mexican mood your evening will kick-start with a punchy tequila cocktail (or non-alcoholic alternative) and some spiced snacks, plus some Cinco Pale Ale alongside your meal.

Tickets for this event include:

  • professional cookery tuition

  • all ingredients and equipment

  • a full meal at our sociable dining table

  • a welcome cocktail and beers during the meal (kindly sponsored by the Hungry Bartender and Abyss Brewing)

  • all recipes from the class.

Ticket pricing

Tickets for this event are £55 per person including all equipment, food, and accompanying drinks.

Any profits raised from our cookery classes support our community cookery activities – where everyone can experience the benefits of cooking and eating together, regardless of finance, confidence or ability. Find out more about the Community Kitchen here or sign-up to our email newsletters to be the first to know about future classes.

Funds raised from this class will support us to run an autumn 'Cooking on a Budget' course for people on low incomes and benefits - one of our most popular and valued community courses. Xav has generously donated his time for the class.

About Xav

Xav's background is a beautiful mix of Mexican and Catalan, his parents and grandparents introduced him to all sorts of wonderful food from an early age and later he learned the importance of food and its heavy influence in both cultures. This led to a career on the catering industry graduating from culinary school, working as a chef for a while and then becoming a sommelier. He worked in fine dining venues for over 10 years in Europe and America until he decided to move on and commit to his photography. His speciality is food photography for the food and drinks industry and portraiture for lifestyle and fashion brands and editorials.
