A Midsummer's Night's Dream performed by The Handlebards
Sun 30 July 2017, 16:00 – 20:00 BST
"4 men, 4 bikes and some pretty epic Shakespearean adventures."
Though this be but madness, yet there is method in't. Since 2013, the Handlebards have clocked up over 5,000 miles by cycling around the world to perform Shakespeare. Described by none other that than Sir Ian McKellan as 'uproariously funny' we set the world on wheels with our unique brand of extremely energetic, charmingly chaotic, environmentally friendly cycle-powered theatre. The Handlebards do Shakespeare a bit differently - cycling from venue to venue and using our bikes to power various surprises and contraptions on-stage.
Riverhill welcomes The Handlebards to our beautiful Walled Garden again in 2017, with their new production of 'A Midsummer's Night's Dream'. Enjoy a Summer's evening with one of Shakespeare's best regarded comedies, and a spectacular view across the Weald of Kent.
We open The Walled Garden at 4pm for you to take your seats on the grass terraces overlooking the staged area. We recommend that you bring a rug to sit on, and chairs are also permitted. You are most welcome to bring picnics. We will be offering Wine, Sparkling Wine, Beer, Pimms, ice cream and other refreshments during the evening. We do not allow alcohol to be bought into the Walled Garden.
Are children welcome at the event?
Yes, children are welcome, and tickets are available for children (age 4-16) at £10 each. Please do be considerate of our other guests when deciding to bring very young children.
What should I bring to the event?
Seating for the event is on the grassy terraces in our Walled Garden, so we recommend you bring a blanket to sit on. You may also bring chairs if you wish. As this is an outdoor event you should bring an extra layer of clothing as the air is likely to get chilly as the evening continues. Blankets are also a good idea. You should also consider checking the weather forecast in advance, and bringing an umbrella in the event of rain.
Due to the gradient of the path from the car park, we advise you to wear flat shoes. High heels are not suitable for this event.
You are welcome to bring a picnic to the event. We do not allow alcohol to be bought into the Walled Garden, but wine, beer and pimms will be available to purchase during the evening.
Is seating reserved?
No, seating is on the grassy terraces of The Walled Garden and is not reserved. The Walled Garden will be open from 4pm for guests to take their places on their own blankets or chairs.
How long is the performance?
The Walled Garden opens at 4pm for you to take your seats and get settled. The performance begins at 5pm, and lasts approximately 1hr and 45 minutes, with a 15 minute interval.

What happens if it rains?
If light showers are forecast the performance will continue. Please do check the weather forecast in advance, and remember to bring your umbrellas if required.
Performances are only cancelled in storm conditions. In the unfortunate event that a performance does need to be cancelled due to weather conditions, the decision will be made 30 minutes before curtain up. An announcement will be made to the audience within The Walled Garden and on Facebook.
What is the refund policy?
Unfortunately tickets are non-refundable.
If the performance is unfortunately cancelled due to storm conditions before the performance has started you will be offered a refund for your tickets. The decision to cancel the performance will not be made until 30 minutes before curtain up. If the decision is made to cancel the performance, an announcement will be posted on Facebook.

Is the event accessible?
Although The Walled Garden is accessible, please be aware that seating is on our grassy terraces, and that we do not currently have accessible toilet facilities.
What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?
Parking at Riverhill Himalayan Gardens is free. As you enter the Gardens our parking is sign-posted to your left. Please be aware that the car park is on a hill, so our gravel walk ways and paths are sloped. For accessible parking, please follow the signs down the drive towards Riverhill House.
