A Misinformation Toolkit for Library Staff

In a world where information is more readily available than ever, it is increasingly becoming the role of the modern information professional to help users navigate facts, fiction and falsehoods. This interactive session will equip library staff across sectors with the skills and tools to recognise misinformation, confidently support users who encounter it, and implement practical strategies to strengthen information resilience.

Through real-world examples, hands-on activities, and sector-specific discussions, participants will:

• Understand the differences between misinformation and disinformation
• Learn about the reach and consequences of misinformation and how to spot the red flags
• Explore tools and resources for fact-checking and critical media literacy including a brief introduction to generative AI and critical information literacy
• Practice constructive ways of engaging with users around sensitive topics
• Share ideas for library-led initiatives to tackle the spread of misinformation
