We start our day in Northwest London with a private tour of the innovative 2 Willow Road. Designed by architect Ernö Goldfinger, who built the house in 1939 as his family residence. The house shows off Goldfinger’s impressive collection of modern art by such greats as Henry Moore, Max Ernst and Bridget Riley. His design was ground-breaking and is still pertinent today.

The group will then take a short walk to Burgh House where we will have lunch in their award-winning café. This Grade 1 listed Queen Anne house could not be more of a contrast to Willow Road, being built in 1704 by a family of haberdashers from the city and nestling in the heart of Hampstead Village.

After lunch Jeremy Green of the Canon Gallery will talk about the small but delightful exhibition at the house entitled Victorian Idylls: Kate Greenaway (1846-1901) & Helen Allingham (1848-1926). Kate Greenaway revolutionised children’s book illustration with her charming and delicate images of children and Allingham painted idyllic watercolours, many of which are based in rural Sussex hark back to a sublime country life. Kate and Helen were lifelong friends and often sketched together on Hampstead Heath.
