The You are Beautiful Project team believes that women are under increasing pressure from the media to look a certain way. Eating disorders, self-harming and a lack of confidence in young women indicates an unhealthy lifestyle underpinned by the glorification of stereotypes in the media. We believe that today’s unattainable standards of beauty in the media have insidiously encroached on young women’s childhood and encouraged issues of self-esteem that are damaging young girl’s mental health.
You are Beautiful Teen Magazine aims to help reconnect young women with themselves and embrace the beauty they and others were born with. It features a lot of girl talk throughout, which includes discussion of the effects of bullying, self-harming, peer pressure and highlighting that looks are not everything. Our magazine is unique in its emphasis on natural, air-brush free beauty, and natural models of varied size, while our competitors are reliant on airbrushed images and size zero standards. Our unwavering commitment to supporting the mental and physical wellbeing of young girls sets us apart as a new, healthier kind of teen magazine.
Our mission is to enable our young girls to understand that looks are not everything and that character is what counts the most, and our ongoing campaign also takes our message into schools and youth clubs in the form of workshops. This is one of the ways that we are committed to reaching as many girls as possible.
