Event description

Description

In the last few days, the names of all the 34 branch officers entitled to be voting members of the new Local Campaign Forum (LCF) - branch chairs and branch officers responsible for campaigns - have been made known.

The inaugural meeting of the 70+-member LCF - at 2.30pm on Sunday, November 26, at Community Base, Brighton - will elect the LCF's executive committee, comprising at least four officers: chair, secretary, treasurer, and vice-chair (of whom at least two must be women).

If the meeting agrees, it could elect as many as 10. Full details can be found here.

Why should you care?

The LCF is an important body that oversees the selection process of Labour Party candidates to stand in the Brighton & Hove City Council (BHCC) elections.

Therefore, it is crucial that the LCF elects a leadership team that is most capable of ensuring Labour wins the first socialist majority on BHCC in 2019.

To play its part, Momentum Brighton & Hove is calling a special meeting at 7.30pm on Monday, November 20. The venue is Dorset Gardens Methodist Church, Brighton BN2 1RL.

The meeting - open to all members and supporters of Momentum Brighton & Hove - will also offer a platform to any LCF members (who support Jeremy Corbyn and the policies he epitomises) who wish to stand for the LCF's executive committee. All LCF members will be given a chance to address the meeting.

Why are we doing this?

Because it is crucial that socialists in the Labour Party in Brighton and Hove - regardless of their affiliation or not to Momentum - are united in preventing a victory for the business-as-usual supporters of Warren Morgan's minority administration.

To be certain of this, we must stand full square behind a single Corbyn-supporting slate. Which must comprise and/or include officers who support Momentum's aims and values.

What can you do?

Who should be on such a slate supported by Momentum Brighton & Hove? Especially when the full membership of the LCF will not be known until just before its inaugural meeting on November 26.

That's what we want to discuss - with members, supporters, and possible candidates.

To have your say, please come along to Dorset Gardens at 7.30pm on Monday, November 20.

We look forward to seeing you there!
