Museum Studio are hosting an open studio evening at their studio in Bermondsey. Join the creative team behind the award-winning Carl Nielsen Museum for behind-the-scenes glimpses into the making of the museum, with panel discussions and talks by the creative team, including Museum Studio’s collaborators, Nulty Lighting, Coda-to-Coda sound designers and The Workers, AV designers.

The Carl Nielsen Museum won the Luigi Micheletti Award 2024, was nominated for the European Museum of the Year Award 2025 and was highlighted for its use of digital technology in the Museums + Heritage Awards.

Through the display of carefully selected snippets of raw sounds and music, the museum invites people into an immersive, almost embodied experience of Nielsen’s spirit rather than a recreation of his life. Sound, light, image and precious artefacts are blended seamlessly, piecing together fragments of the composer’s complex and intriguing life. It is a personal journey through the composer’s genius that moves, inspires and transforms.

The design tackles the inherent challenge of giving precedence to audio in a physical and visual setting. Across the three movements, Nielsen’s life and creative force is represented as a current of energy – like a pulse of electricity, lighting up everything it touches.

With displays of project materials and samples, food, wine and conversation, all to the soundtrack of Nielsen’s music, the evening will explore the meticulous process behind the making of this special museum.
