Four authors who have retold the Eyam Plague story talk to Eyam Museum about A Parcel of Patterns and why Eyam still inspires writers today.
About this event
The story of the Eyam Plague 1665-1666 has been inspiring poets, playwrights, essayists and authors since the end of the eighteenth century. A Parcel of Patterns first appeared as a children's book in 1983 by celebrated novelist the late Jill Paton Walsh and quickly became a classic. It has enthralled generations of new readers over the past four decades.
To celebrate its republication this year, Eyam Museum is collaborating with Vintage on this live online event, inviting four contemporary authors to discuss the legacy of Jill Paton Walsh's work, its influence on perceptions of Eyam and their own writing, the enduring appeal of the Eyam story to writers and why it resonates more than ever following the Covid-19 pandemic.
Guests
Joanne Burn, author of The Hemlock Cure
Berlie Doherty, author of Children of Winter
Jennifer Jenkins, author of Three
Lisa Manterfield, author of The Smallest Thing
To celebrate the republication, event ticket holders will be able to claim a £2 discount on all four titles, plus the reissue of A Parcel of Patterns, through the Eyam Museum online shop.
