A Poetic Perspective on Evelyn De Morgan and the Pre-Raphaelites
Event Information
About this event
The Pre-Raphaelites frequently looked to poetry for inspiration, just as contemporary poets today often search visual art for ideas, images, or triggers. The Pre-Raphaelites, rich in imagery and metaphor, created paintings which can themselves be read as poems – and none more so than Evelyn De Morgan.
In this talk Ellora Sutton will discuss how she has been inspired by the work of the Pre-Raphaelites – specifically Evelyn De Morgan, Dante Gabriel Rossetti, and Joanna Boyce Wells – and the exciting possibilities of viewing poetry and painting as sister-forms.
