A practical approach to teaching mechanics in the new A-level mathematics specifications
What can you do with a house brick, a tennis ball, some six inch nails and a hammer?
In this two hour CPD session, aimed at teachers of A-level mathematics who wish to enthuse all students encountering the mechanics elements of the new A-level specification, you will find out how simple everyday objects can be incorporated into your teaching.
During the session participants will:
Discuss the advantages and the barriers to a practical approach to the teaching of mechanics.
Take part in a series of hands-on experiments which can be easily replicated in the classroom.
Gain access to freely available mechanics resources which can be used as inspiration for further lessons
There will also be the opportunity to discuss the implementation of the new A level in your school, convey what information you still require and what further support your maths hub can offer.
The session will be delivered by Steve Lyon, Mathematics Specialist at the National STEM Learning Centre in York.
