Buddhist philosopher, author and peace-builder Daisaku Ikeda (born 1928), president of the Soka Gakkai International (SGI), a lay Buddhist organisation, has issued a peace proposal offering ways forward in tackling global challenges every year since 1983. This year’s proposal looks at three themes:
- Humanitarian and human rights protection
- Ecological integrity and disaster risk reduction
- Disarmament and the prohibition of nuclear weapons
These proposals are oriented to the ideal of a world in which no one is left behind. Ikeda suggests ways that individuals can contribute towards shared action, which will lead to greater solidarity and the elimination of needless suffering.
Robert Harrap, General Director SGI-UK, will introduce and discuss the 2016 Peace Proposal issued to the United Nations by Daisaku Ikeda. The title of proposal is "A Shared Pledge for a More Humane Future: To Eliminate Misery from the Earth." Doors open at 6.30 for 7pm start
