Event Details

In the same week that Alaska, the Silver Seas' fourth album, is released and the band play a rock and roll show at the Lexington, their leader and songwriter appears on July 2nd in a unique intimate show, singing, playing and talking to David Hepworth in the atmospheric surroundings of the Slaughtered Lamb.

Daniel Tashian was born into the music business, his father having played Shea Stadium with the Beatles and been a member of Emmylou Harris' Hot Band, and both his parents having written songs for the likes of Kenny Rogers and Solomun Burke. His debut album was produced by T Bone Burnett. In 1999 he formed the Bees with Jason Lehning, they subsequently turned into the Silver Seas and have since made four albums. Danny Baker says they're the best group in the world. Daniel is based in Nashville where he works as a songwriter, writes and performs with the Silver Seas and comes up with such unexpected projects as a solo record inspired by the Dudley Moore movie Arthur.

The basement of the Slaughtered Lamb is one of London's most comfortable and atmospheric performance spaces. Situated just north of Smithfield, within easy reach of Barbican and Farringdon stations, it also provides excellent food and drink.

This will be the first time we've presented a Word In Your Ear evening here and we plan to take advantage of its intimacy to present an evening which is a combination of music, interview, workshop, story-telling session and Q&A. If you're a fan of the Silver Seas you won't want to miss it. If you're one of the people who misses the Word both as a magazine and as a podcast you'll also want to be there.

David Hepworth says: "Daniel's written some of my favourite songs of the last few years and I know from having talked to him in the past that he has plenty of interesting things to say about them. I aim to get him to share them. I hope you'll be able to come to what should be a very special evening and excellent prep for the Silver Seas show at the Lexington the following night."

Here's a video for one of the tracks from Alaska which Daniel made at the Mall.

We're delighted to announce that Dylan Jones will also be joining us to talk about his acclaimed Live Aid book The Eighties: One Day, One Decade.

Dylan is editor of GQ and was the editor of Arena and I.D. during the 80s, so he's ideally placed to talk about how that decade began, developed and finished, all through the lens of the events of that hot day at the decade's halfway point, the day that turned rock from a sub-culture to the mainstream of popular entertainment.

Dylan, who is a long-time friend of The Word, will be talking to David Hepworth, who doesn't remember much about Live Aid owing to the fact that he was there.
