A Refresher Day Beekeeping Course - Sat 28th April 2018

Have you attended a beginners course but would like a refresher before you start you beekeeping? If so this course is ideal to get you started. An informal day spent with other new beekeepers, discussing key steps for the start of the season.

Mike has been a Beekeeper since 1972. He is the ex-chairman and current President of the Hasings & Rother Beekeeping Association. (H&R BKA). He represents the division for H&R BKA at Sussex Beekeeping Association and is an examiner for the BBKA Basic and General examinations.

Jill keeps up to six colonies of bees and has been both beekeeping and training for many years. She is an active member of the Hastings and Rother Beekeeping Association and has run both introductory and other courses for beginners for the last six years.

Learning the art of beekeeping is a fascinating past-time, but beware it can become addictive from the very first time you open a hive and peer inside! It is an interest that can just keep growing, as you begin to understand more and more about how these little insects work as an incredible and complex colony there is endless knowledge to gain. Bees are under threat and need our help to survive, by understanding the behaviour and instincts of the honey bee along with their needs and the problems they are encountering you can help a vital part of our environment.

What's included in the price?

An informal day spent with others who have just started out in beekeeping. A wealth of information from highly experienced beekeepers and a chance to discuss your new beekeeping experiences with others at a similar stage to yourself.

Light refreshments will be provided, including tea, coffee, water, and a 'honey-themed' cake. Parking is available at the entrance to our farm and our training room is just short walk down our track.

Just bring yourself, confirmation of your booking, a notebook and any questions you may have. If you have any dietary requirements please let us know in advance.

Mantel Farm

Mantel Farm is a family run smallholding in the heart of the East Sussex Countryside. Our aim is to support our family in the most self sufficient and sustainable way as possible. We run a small scale family business, only selling products we have used ourselves and animals we have experience in keeping. Mantel Farm is on the outskirts of the historic town of Battle in the hamlet of Henley Down, between the villages of Catsfield and Crowhurst. It has been a poultry farm since the 1940's, originally producing poultry and eggs to the commercial market. When we purchased the farm it had ceased trading for a number of years, but it soon became our dream to not let this agricultural premises lay idle but to return it to its intended use, although on a smaller scale.
