Description

As people are living longer, governments expect people to work longer. Many of us will probably have to work into our seventies. Increased state pension ages will impact unequally on individual workers. Unions will need to work with employers to protect the right of individuals to age actively.

The ASPIRE project, funded by the European Commission and led by Newcastle University, is working with employers and trade unions to develop innovative approaches to active ageing. In particular, it will give union reps and employers the “tools” to support employees as they adjust to a new architecture of work and retirement. We invite you to participate in this knowledge sharing workshop. The research will benefit you and your fellow union members by providing a training course and materials to support negotiating and consulting with employers over active ageing.

As well as being a valuable learning experience you will be helping us with this important research.

We are looking at activities to

  • Pilot human resource management interventions which support older work
  • Reconcile competing intergenerational interests
  • Investigate ways employers and unions are shifting from an early retirement culture towards an “active ageing” orientation.

We are looking for your views and experiences to help us with our research. In return we hope you will acquire new knowledge that will help you think about the active ageing agenda and the kind of things you could be doing with your employer.
