Event Details

Following the unanimous adoption of the Roadmap for Trident Removal resolution at the SNP Conference in April, we have published a booklet discussing the issues in more detail. You can find it at: https://snpcnd.scot/news/.

We are organising a day of debate for SNP members on Saturday 28th September 2019 in Glasgow. The main themes of the day are:

1. The key steps for removal and the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons.
2. The obsolescence of Trident given the developing cyber threat.
3. Jobs and a Scottish defence diversification strategy.
4. The politics of Trident removal.

Our confirmed speakers and discussion leaders are:

Dave Webb keynote speaker - Chair of CND UK, convenor of the Global Network Against Weapons and Nuclear Power in Space and a member of Scientists for Global Responsibility.

Bill Kidd - MSP for Glasgow Anniesland, Convener of the Cross-Party Group in the Scottish Parliament on Nuclear Disarmament, Co-President of Parliamentarians for Nuclear Non-Proliferation and Disarmament.

Bill Ramsay - Convener of SNP CND, president of the Educational Institute of Scotland.

Isobel Lindsay - Vice Chair of Scottish CND, veteran politician and activist.

Jean Anderson, SNP CND Secretary, Scottish CND Secretary.

Robin McAlpine -  Director of the Common Weal think tank, journalist, first director of the Jimmy Reid Foundation.

Ronnie Cowan - MP  for Inverclyde, leader of YES Inverclyde, member of the Public Administration and Constitutional Affairs Select Committee and the Transport Select Committee, SNP Westminster spokesperson for Infrastructure.

The venue is Renfield St Stephens and we'll be starting with registration at 10am.

This event is for SNP members. This is an exciting time for SNP CND and all our supporters! We feel that this is a very positive step towards our future and that having practical discussions on the issues now will make nuclear disarmament easier and faster when independence comes.

I hope to see you there.
Best wishes,
Jean

Scottish National Party Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (SNPCND)

SNPCND is a sub-group of the Scottish Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament.

We are members of both the SNP and Scottish CND. We campaign against nuclear weapons and provide platforms for the discussion of topical issues involving weapons of mass destruction. We believe that only through independence for Scotland will we be able to get rid of the nuclear bombs that foul our coast.
