Event description

Description

Summary

A sensory garden offers a unique learning environment that is both calming and reflective; an environment that benefits all children and particularly pupils who find it difficult to learn in a classroom setting.

As well as enabling us to get up close to nature and to understand the importance of protecting it, sensory gardens offer unique ways to explore other areas of the curriculum such as English and Maths; from identifying and describing the scent and taste of herbs to drawing a sound map in a woodland glade.

This one-day course will give you the knowledge and skills needed to plan inspiring enquiry-based lessons that combine growing, the senses and philosophical enquiry. Participants will see how Open Futures’ askit and growitstrands can work together to offer learning that is fun, practical and thought-provoking and will take away lots of ideas for developing their own sensory-thinking garden.
