A Service of Thanksgiving for the life and work of Lord Judd of Portsea will be held in St Margaret's Church, Westminster Abbey on Tuesday 28th June 2022 at 12 Noon.

Frank Judd was a member of Parliament for 43 years serving in the Commons from 1966-1979 as MP for Portsmouth West and Portsmouth North and as a minister under Harold Wilson and Jim Callaghan in the ministries of Defence (Navy), Overseas Development and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. Following his defeat in the 1979 election he worked as Assistant Director to Canon Collins' Defence and Aid Fund for Southern Africa, as Director of Voluntary Service Overseas and as Director of Oxfam.

In 1991 Frank entered the Lords where he served for 30 years holding several front bench roles and campaigning on issues in support of human rights and social justice. An active member of the parliamentary delegation to the Council of Europe, he acted as rapporteur on the conflict in Chechnya and chaired the Sub-Committee on Refugees. He served on the Courts of several universities including the London School of Economics and Lancaster and Newcastle Universities and on a number of international bodies and commissions including the WHO Task Force on Health and Development, Ingvar Carlson's Commission on Global Governance and Justice Goldstone's Commission on Human Duties and Responsibilities.

Committed to the work of many n.g.os. Lord Judd served as Patron or Hon. President of a number including YMCA, Saferworld, The Campaign for National Parks and charities in Cumbria where he made his home for the last 25 years. In 1995 he was proud to be awarded the Freedom of the City of Portsmouth.

You have to give your name and email address to do that.

A link to your ticket (s) will be sent to the email address you have provided. Please print out each ticket and bring the ticket (s) with you to the service. The Abbey does not share any data you leave with third parties.

Please note for security reasons, there will be a bag search before entering the church. You should also be aware that the nearest toilet facilities are located in the Abbey Cloisters or at Westminster Central Hall.

Members of the congregation are requested to be seated by 11.45 am.

What are my transport/parking options getting to the event? Public transport is advised. The nearest underground stations are Westminster and St James' Park.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket(s) to the event? Yes, please bring tickets for each person attending.

What time do the doors open? 11.20 am.

What Covid preparations have been made in the Church : We provide sanitizer gel at the entrance and the wearing of face masks is optional. The seating in the church can allow for social distancing.

How long will the Service last? The Service will last an hour.
