#DefinitionRedefined
This exhibition stands as a direct challenge to societal misgivings and reductive stereotypes that have long sought to define Black women. "Single Light" asserts that Black women are not monolithic figures, but individuals of immeasurable depth and complexity.
Each image, bathed in the nuanced play of light and shadow, reveals the individuality, uniqueness, beauty, splendour, and grace that reside within. Here, we witness the substance of Black womanhood: a collective identity forged in the crucible of history, yet radiating with a vibrant, unyielding present.
These portraits capture the quiet power of lives lived, with unwavering for some, but certainly with determination, the daily triumphs over systemic barriers, and the deep wellspring of strength that sustains them. They are architects of their own destinies, leaders in their own lives, communities, and visionaries shaping the future. They are, and are becoming, a force of unity, standing in solidarity with one another and with all who seek a more just and equitable world. We envision a society that recognises and celebrates their resilience, and the brilliance of Black women, not as exceptions, but as the embodiment of human potential. This is a vision of a world where their voices are amplified, their contributions are valued, and their inherent dignity is affirmed.
