A Sound Approach To Killer Whale Conservation with Prof. Volker Deecke
Overview
A sound approach to killer whale conservation: Understanding and protecting the ocean’s top predators with Volcker Deecke, Professor of Wildlife Conservation at the University of Cumbria.
Killer whales are the top predators in marine ecosystems. They are found in all the world’s oceans, yet we know surprisingly little about how these animals communicate and find their prey. Prof. Volker Deecke presents the results of research using innovative digital recording tags to understand the foraging behaviour of mammal-hunting and fish-eating killer whales in the Northeast Pacific. It shows how new technology can help us understand how these animals communicate and find and catch their prey, and how underwater noise may be interfering with these essential life processes. This information increases our understanding of these apex predators and their habitat and ultimately helps us protect them better.
We invite you to join the conversation, ask questions, and share your experiences. We want our talks to be accessible for everyone so we are asking you to pay what you can. Your donation will support marine conservation in Scotland. Subtitles can be generated during the webinar. Please ensure under 16s are accompanied by an adult. Thank you.
