About this event

Family & Education • Education

You are invited to attend a free DfE funded workshop on A Special Approach to Making it REAL. We will provide training to practitioners on how they can use the Raising Early Acheivement in Literacy (REAL) approach to support children with Special Educational Needs and/or Disability (SEND).

The aim of the workshop is to provide an overview of how to support the home learning environment for families with a child with SEND, with a particular focus on early language and literacy.

In particular,

  • To set the scene by considering the context for young children with SEND and their families
  • To share information about ‘A special approach to Making it REAL and how it can support families of two-year-olds and young children especially those who may have SEND
  • To show how the approach supports practitioners in their everyday practice in settings, and in working with parents
  • To share examples of how simple, low cost and fun resources and activities, backed up with information and ideas, have built parents' confidence in their ability to develop their child’s early literacy

Note that the content will be similar to workshops we have held on this topic in the last year or so, no need to attend again, this is an opportunity to invite other colleagues to learn about A Special Approach to Making it REAL

Tickets are free but in order to reach as wide an audience as possible, within each Local Authority we are currently limiting tickets to:

  • 2 early years settings, up to 2 tickets for each one
  • Up to 2 tickets per family hub
  • 1 ticket for a LA colleague
