Description

**This event is open to HPMA London Academy members only**

Summary

Many NHS Trusts use workplace mediation and other informal conflict management processes. The most popular option has been to train a team of internal mediators, but in many Trusts, the number of mediators has quickly dwindled and the service is not used. Is there a better way to manage conflict and use mediation more effectively?

Aims and objectives:

  • To create a shared understanding of informal conflict management and the benefits of this approach to NHS Trusts.
  • To use UCLH as a case study to showcase where a strategic approach to conflict management is being successfully embedded, as well as some of the challenges of trying to implement informal conflict resolution within an NHS setting.
  • To explore the key learning from UCLH to make informal conflict management a success at your Trust.

Content:

  • Defining informal conflict management and making the business case for a strategic approach in the NHS.

  • To learn how UCLH is using conflict management processes and what has worked and what hasn’t.

  • How to create a culture of conflict management within NHS Trusts.
  • A brainstorming session on next steps for embedding a culture of conflict management within your Trust.

Target audience:

This workshop is designed for HR professionals who are at the forefront of dealing with workplace conflict and who want to learn more about how to make effective informal conflict management a reality at their Trusts.

Facilitator:

A senior Trust HR professional and a Trust mediator will join Consensio, one of the UK’s leading mediation and conflict management services providers, to explore what can make informal conflict management within the NHS a success story.

Competencies covered

The session will address Relationship builder, capability builderat level 2/3 from our HR Competency Framework.
