A Syrian Supper
Sat 28 January 2017, 20:00 – 22:30 GMT
So many people need help in Syria and it's often difficult to know where to start. Ordinary people are paying the highest price and the need for medical aid gets more desperate by the day as more lives are lost. It's time to make your voice heard and we want to help you do just that. Come and join us for a night of feasting and fundraising!
The Flour Pot Bakery in Hove are hosting a 'Supper for Syria' evening in conjunction with UK Action for Refugees where we hope to help them raise as much money as possible to allow them to continue purchasing essential medical equipment needed for hospitals in Syria.
Relentless airstrikes, specifically those that have been deliberately targeting hospitals, have left doctors on the ground struggling to cope with the influx of casualties and a lack of medical infrastructure. In the last few days alone, three hospitals have been hit, completely destroying two and killing 10 of the brave doctors and nurses that gave their lives to save others and the third hospital has lost the use of its operating theatre and transportation leaving patients in a dangerous and vulnerable situation and unable to undergo life saving surgery.
So far, UK Action for Refugees have sent six 40ft containers of aid, three of these being purely medical and are already sourcing equipment for their next three medical containers! They work closely with a network of doctors in free hospitals and clinics in Syria to find out exactly what each hospital needs. Incubators, ECG machines, ventilators, ultrasounds, x-ray suites, ambulances and so much more have been sent over but the need is overwhelming and increasing by the day.
But it's not unachievable. If we all pull together, people helping people, we can make a difference. The work they are doing is testament to this.
We will be serving up a wonderful 3 course Syrian feast to our guests with an assortment of great raffle prizes to be won on the night and would love to welcome you to join us and support the endeavours of this charitable fund.
We are incredibly lucky to have the support of UK Action for Refugees for whom we are raising the money for and welcome our guest speaker, Ahmad al-Rashid, a Syrian refugee who has experienced the horror and destruction of civil war and had his journey to safety to the UK documented by the BBC in the recent documentary series, Exodus.
Tickets are just £35 and we hope with your generosity and attendance, we can raise £1500 to help those that need it most. So please join us for this Syrian Supper on Saturday Januray 28th, 2017 at The Flour Pot Bakery, Hove.
If you cannot join us for dinner, please feel free to support us in other ways by donating whatever you can to their online fundraiser at www.helpsyrianhospitals.com. As little as £10 can contribute towards a CAT Tourniquet that stems arterial bleeding and is a vital part of a doctors trauma kit and can mean the difference between life or death in most cases.
We hope to see you on January 28th for an evening of solidarity, good food and great company.
Remember places are limited so please don't hesitate to buy your ticket and leave with your bellies content and your hearts full of love ❤️
