Description
Like Dickens, the two cities that the League of Harmony has in mind are London and Paris in the eighteenth century. They will be presenting a varied selection of sonatas and solos illustrating the contrasting styles of English and French composers of the period. This will include an aria from French opera, arranged for cello by the Englishman Stephen Paxton and a set of variations by the Frenchman Jean-Baptiste Breval on a song from this country that will be familiar to all. They will also be performing, among other things, a musical depiction of hares boxing, as well as making a valiant effort to replicate the sound of hunting horns on baroque cello and harp!
