A Tapestry of 17 Churches – Walk & Talk, 2:30pm

The route will visit sites of many of the 17 churches that have united into present day Greyfriars. Roy Pinkerton, author of a new book about the rich history of these churches and their congregations, will talk about them at various stops along the way.

Walkers meet at Greyfriars Kirk, for a 2:30pm start. The walk will take approx. 2h 30m, including 1h for talk stops, over 3 miles. Please ensure you are able to cover this distance, which includes some of Edinburgh’s steep steps. Additional description of the route will be available on Eventbrite shortly.

Mini-bus: an option for those less able to walk, with limited spaces, to visit the sites and hear about the history and community links. You must be able to make your own way to/from the Kirk at the start/finish. Please contact the Kirk office (01312251900) if you wish to reserve a seat on the minibus.

Greyfriars Evening Pot-luck Supper, 5:30pm

Join us for a fun and relaxed early evening meal to round off your day. When you book a space you will be invited to contribute, if you can, a savoury or sweet dish for the sharing table (walkers can drop off at the walk start). Tea and coffee available, please feel free to bring your own other liquid refreshment.

Threads in a Tapestry, Roy Pinkerton

As part of the Kirk’s 400th anniversary, a new book ‘Threads in a Tapestry’ by Roy Pinkerton describes the present congregation, and the seventeen churches that have happened to unite within Greyfriars over time.  The book highlights just how each of the churches’ congregations have contributed their own special characteristics and rich history to the present Greyfriars community.  The book is on sale at the Kirk shop for £8.00.

Suggested donation of £5 per person.
