Event description

Description

An introduction to the United Nations' SDGs and how structural engineers can use these in their work to tackle the climate crisis and create a better world.

The 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development provides a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future.

Will Arnold will present an overview of the goals, their relationship with the climate crisis, and the role we must play as structural engineers if we are to tackle both over the next ten years.

He will share some examples of Arup projects that embrace the SDGs and give examples of ways in which attendees could increase the impact that they have through their work.

Will Arnold is an award-winning Structural Engineer who has held key roles on high profile projects including the Macallan Whiskey distillery in Scotland, and the CERN Science Gateway visitors centre in Switzerland. He recently returned from Rwanda where he led the structural design of the country's new Institute of Conservation Agriculture, a project designed and built to maximise its alignment with the UN SDGs.
