About this event

This event is a fundraiser for three powerful, women-led initiatives in India, partners to Action Village India a charity of over 30 years experience of working with communities in rural India.

15 adult tickets available.

JoinDragan Obrenovic to forage the season's harvest. Draganwas born in a Yugoslavian village, which meant he learned many skills in self-sufficiency. His granny introduced him to the qualities of plants and foraging, in which he now has a diploma.

The walk is followed by a cooked plant-based lunch inspired by Madras Cafe Cookbook, a very beautiful publication of South Indian and Gujarati style dishes published by Action Village India.

Your contributions from this walk go to:

  • A Girls' Education Programme in Bihar & Jarkhand supporting 1100 teenage girls to remain in school, while working with their families and communities towards broader societal change.
  • Self-organised Women's Groups around the Chilika Lake in Odisha leading on sustainable livelihoods, from poultry farming to kitchen spices, and ecological resilience by planting casuarina as a protective barrier against cyclonic storms.
  • Indigenous Women in Madhya Pradesh who are socio-economically marginalised are starting to earn their own incomes through training, group savings and peer networks. Climate change and building community resilience are key concerns of their work.

Practical considerations for the walk:

Be aware that we will be hill walking and that, by joining this walk, you will be asked to stay in the group and keep the pace of the leader. If you have any questions about accessibility, please contact the organiser.

Wear suitable clothing and footwear for walking and for the weather. Bring water to keep hydrated during the walk and containers or bags for what you forage. There will be additional bags available on the day.

Children under 16 go free, but have to be accompanied by an adult who is responsible for them.

If you are attending on your own, we ask you to give the telephone number of someone to inform in case of emergency.

The event will go ahead unless the weather is very poor, when you will be notified and it will be rearranged. So we will proceed in light to moderate rain, for instance.
